Welcome to the Flower Shop Series! This two-day series will take students through the workflow of running and owning a flower shop in a simulated environment. Our production management program is intended for students who are interested in working in a flower shop, wrapping orders beautifully for delivery, managing workflows and having an authentic flower shop design experience. If you are interested in working toward a career as a florist, while being coached by seasoned professionals, or just enjoy making beautiful, lush floral designs, then this two-day program is for you.
This series of classes is intended for beginning-level students who have an interest in learning foundation level skills in floral design. Skills include how to correctly handle and care for flowers, how to use a floral knife and clippers, and when, and the conditioning of flowers for optimal vase-life longevity. This series teaches simple, high-end designs that highlight the flowers’ most beautiful and unique characteristics. Once learned, these designs can be recreated at home again and again using a variety of different flowers and materials.
After learning the basic floristry techniques in the Introduction Series, the Intermediate Series will introduce the next level of floral design skills and techniques including purchasing flowers and building recipes. The prerequisite for this program is the Introduction Series. Students will be expected to have a basic knowledge of flora design and floristry skills such as using the tools and conditioning flowers.
Our most popular Foundation Level course, the 5-Day Intensive Series combines both the Introductory and Intermediate classes into a one-week course that makes up Classes 1-9.
This series gives the student a mastery of nine different designs, as well as a buying trip to New York’s wholesale flower market on West 28th St. Each successive class strengthens previously learned skills and techniques and it builds to a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s best practices.
The Advanced Design Series follows the Intensive Series where students learn more advanced techniques, and begin to develop their own style of floral design. Students will learn four new design mechanics and will learn how to differentiate between different design styles including organic, classic and modern. Each student will also be responsible for creating a concept and design, picking their own color palette for each instructional technique, and selecting their own flowers to best fit their concept.
Our Advanced Wedding Series focuses on advanced skills for the wedding market. It presupposes knowledge of certain techniques such as proper flower processing, basic arranging and familiarity with the florist’s knife, as gained through FSNY’s Intensive Series. The Wedding Series includes step-by-step instruction of five wedding-specific design skills including: hand-wiring individual flowers for boutonnieres and head wreaths, a cascading bridal bouquet using hand-wiring techniques; large scale designs for ceremony decor; elevated centerpiece designs for the reception and the decoration of a Chuppah and flowering arch. Our students walk away from the Advanced Wedding Series with a great understanding of the most important wedding mechanics and designs!
In this class, each student will begin with a signature Buunch vase and learn how to build a design inspired by the vessel. Each student will create an arrangement incorporating the principles and style of the Buunch method. Each student will also learn how to use a flower frog, the sustainable mechanic over floral foam, and take home a beautiful Buunch arrangement and vessel.
In this class, students will learn Olivier’s signature style of design intertwining branches and leaves with the structural elements of the container. Each student will take home a beautiful, architectural design to take home.
This 3-day Event Planning series is for florists, caterers, event planners or anyone planning an event. Students will learn the workflow, fundamentals and best way to realize a fully planned event. In this simulated project management course, we will show you how to plan an event from start to finish. You will meet your Client, and learn how to create layouts, timelines, and budgets, as well as the elements of design. You will also learn about vendor relations and get to meet real industry professionals.
Master Florist Emily Pinon will highlight specific flower pairings with a unique vessel to create a distinguished design and demonstrate how container styles should work with your overall floral design. Do not miss the opportunity to expand your vision and create a contemporary floral arrangement! All levels welcome!
The Conditioning Lab is a simulated design studio experience where students spend the entire day conditioning flowers for up and coming projects. Student will learn the best workflow to process flowers including how to check-in materials, prepping containers and conditioning different varieties of flowers depending on their needs and time of use.
